Gmail Not Receiving Emails: How to Fix It
Emails you're expecting aren't showing up in your inbox — they're not in Spam either, or they seem to have vanished entirely.
Try these in order
- Check Spam, Trash, and other tabs (Promotions, Social, Updates) — Gmail sometimes misfiles legitimate mail. If you find one, mark it "Not Spam" to retrain the filter.
- Search all mail for the sender's name — the message may exist but just isn't landing in your primary inbox.
- Check your storage. Gmail shares storage with Google Drive and Photos — if your account is at 100%, new mail silently stops arriving. Check usage at one.google.com and free up space if needed.
- Review filters and forwarding rules. Go to Settings → See all settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses, and Forwarding and POP/IMAP — a misconfigured rule can silently redirect or block mail.
- Send yourself a test email from another account (Outlook, Apple Mail) to confirm whether the problem is isolated to specific senders.
- Check Google Workspace status if you're on a work/school account — an admin setting or a Google-side outage can be the real cause.
Still stuck? If storage, filters, and forwarding all check out, the issue is likely on the sender's end or a temporary Google service disruption — try again in a few hours.
