Instagram Won't Let Me Post: How to Fix It

Your photo, video, or Story won't upload — it either fails outright, gets stuck spinning, or shows an error.

Try these in order

  1. Switch networks. Move from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or the reverse). A weak or unstable connection is the single most common cause of a stalled upload.
  2. Force close Instagram completely, not just minimize it — then reopen and try again.
  3. Cancel any stuck upload and start the post over rather than waiting for a frozen one to finish.
  4. Update the app. Open the App Store or Google Play, search Instagram, and install any pending update — new posting features often only work on the latest version.
  5. Log out and back in. This refreshes your account's connection to Instagram's servers.
  6. Clear the app's cache (Android: long-press Instagram → App info → Storage → Clear Cache. iPhone: Offload the app under Settings → General → iPhone Storage, then reinstall).
  7. Restart your phone, then try posting one more time.
Still stuck? If none of these work, the issue may be server-side on Instagram's end, or tied to a specific account restriction. Check Instagram's Help Center for account-specific issues.
