Amazon Gift Card Not Working: How to Fix It

Your Amazon gift card won't redeem, says it's already been used, or the code won't scan.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check your balance first. Go to Your Gift Card Balance — the card may already be redeemed and the money is in your account (Amazon Help).
  2. Make sure you're in the right account. Gift cards are added to whichever account you're signed in to, and balances can't move between accounts (Amazon Help).
  3. Check it's an Amazon.com card. Amazon.com gift cards only work on Amazon.com, not other countries' Amazon sites (Amazon Help).
  4. Can't read the code? Contact Amazon. Have the card's serial number, the order number if you know it, purchaser and recipient names, and the address it was sent to (Amazon Help).
  5. Bought from another store? If the card came from another retailer, contact that retailer for help (Amazon Help).
  6. Watch for scams. Anyone asking you to pay them with Amazon gift cards is almost always a scammer.
Still stuck? Once redeemed, the balance stays in your account until you use it — you don't need to redeem the card again (Amazon Help).
