Discord Won't Let You Join a Server: How to Fix It

You click an invite link and Discord says the invite is invalid or expired instead of taking you into the server.

Try these in order

  1. Ask for a fresh invite link. "Unknown" or "expired" invites simply need to be re-issued by someone in the server (Discord Support).
  2. Re-type the invite code carefully. Codes are case-sensitive, so a single wrong capital letter breaks the link (Discord Support).
  3. Check how many servers you're in. Regular accounts can join 100 servers, and Nitro accounts 200 — leave one before joining another (Discord Support).
  4. Leave extra servers if your Nitro expired. If you joined more than 100 while Nitro was active, you must drop below 100 before joining anything new (Discord Support).
  5. Consider that you might be banned. Server bans block invites; contact the server admins and ask them to revoke the ban in Server Settings (Discord Support).
  6. Check your connection and Discord's status. Run a speed test, try another network, and look at Discord's status page for outages (Discord Support).
  7. Restart or update the app. Fully close Discord, wait 30 seconds, reopen it, and check for updates in Settings > App Settings (Discord Support).
Still stuck? Bans are IP-based, so only the server's admins can lift them — if they can't, contact Discord Support at dis.gd/contact (Discord Support).
