Facebook Notifications Not Working: How to Fix It

You're not getting alerts for messages, comments, or likes — you only see them when you open the app yourself.

Try these in order

  1. Turn off Do Not Disturb Swipe down on Android and tap the Do Not Disturb tile, or turn it off in Settings on iPhone (Help Desk Geek).
  2. Turn off battery saver Low Power Mode on iPhone and Battery Saver on Android both hold back notifications (Help Desk Geek).
  3. Allow notifications in your phone settings On iPhone: Settings > Notifications > Facebook > Allow Notifications. On Android: Settings > Apps > Facebook > Notifications (Help Desk Geek).
  4. Check the settings inside Facebook Tap your profile picture, then Settings & privacy > Settings > Notification settings, turn on Push for the alerts you want, and make sure "Mute push notifications" is off (Help Desk Geek). You can also fine-tune alerts for specific people or Pages here (Facebook Help Center).
  5. Allow background data Turn on Background App Refresh on iPhone, or background data on Android, so Facebook can check for alerts (Help Desk Geek).
  6. Clear the cache and update the app On Android clear Facebook's cache, then update the app in your store (Help Desk Geek).
  7. Reinstall Facebook Delete the app and install it fresh, then log back in (Help Desk Geek).
Still stuck? If you're missing browser alerts on a computer, click the padlock beside the address bar on Facebook, open Site settings, and set Notifications to Allow (Help Desk Geek).
