Gmail Recover Deleted Emails: How to Fix It

You deleted an email by accident and want it back.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check Trash first. On a computer, open Gmail → More → Trash (Gmail Help).
  2. Move it back. Tick the emails you want, click Move to at the top, and choose where to put them (Gmail Help).
  3. Act within 30 days. Deleted emails stay in Trash for 30 days, then they're gone for good (Gmail Help).
  4. Search All Mail too. If you archived rather than deleted, the email is in All Mail — search for it including Spam and Trash (Gmail Help).
  5. Work or school account? Ask your admin. Google Workspace admins can sometimes restore emails deleted from Trash within a short window.
Still stuck? Emails permanently deleted, or in Trash for more than 30 days, can't be recovered by you or Google support (Gmail Help).
