Instagram Account Hacked: How to Fix It
Someone else got into your Instagram account — your password, email, or phone number was changed, or posts and messages appeared that you didn't send.
What exactly is happening?
Try these in order
- Go to instagram.com/hacked right away. This is Instagram's official recovery page for accounts someone else has accessed or that you can't log in to (Instagram Help).
- Check your email for a message from Instagram. If the hacker changed your email, Instagram usually sends a message to your old address — use it to reverse the change. Make sure the email is really from Instagram and not a phishing copy (Instagram Help).
- Use the 'lost access to email or phone' option on the recovery page if the hacker changed both your email and phone number (Instagram Help).
- Once you're back in, change your password to something you don't use anywhere else, and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Remove apps and devices you don't recognize. Check your logged-in devices in Accounts Center and log out anything unfamiliar.
- Watch for unauthorized posts. If your account posted things you didn't, delete them and follow Instagram's guide for unauthorized content (Instagram Help).
Still stuck? Use the Account Recovery & Support Hub, or chat with Meta's AI support assistant from the Help Center for real-time help (Instagram Help).
