Instagram Shadowbanned or Reach Dropped: How to Fix It

Your posts and Reels suddenly get far fewer views, likes, or new followers than usual, and you suspect Instagram is hiding them.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check Account Status first. On a professional account, open Settings and find Account Status. It shows whether features are restricted and whether your content is eligible to be recommended to non-followers (Instagram).
  2. See which post caused it. If Account Status says content can't be recommended, open the sample post or Reel it shows and check which guideline applies (Instagram Help).
  3. Check your profile too. Your profile photo or bio can make your whole account ineligible for recommendations, not just one post (Instagram Help).
  4. Edit or remove the flagged content. Removing what goes against the Recommendations Guidelines can restore eligibility (Instagram Help).
  5. Request a review if Instagram got it wrong. Tap Request a Review directly from Account Status for any decision you disagree with (Instagram).
  6. Remember your followers still see you. Being ineligible for recommendations only affects Explore, Reels, search, and suggestions to non-followers — your existing followers can still see your content (Instagram Help).
Still stuck? If Account Status shows no problems, a drop in reach is usually normal fluctuation. Being eligible doesn't guarantee Instagram will recommend a post.
