Outlook Not Syncing: How to Fix It

New emails only appear when you manually refresh, or your phone shows old mail while your computer shows new mail.

Try these in order

  1. Check your internet connection. Open a browser and load a site like microsoft.com to confirm you're actually online (Microsoft Support).
  2. Force a manual sync. In new Outlook, hit the Sync button on the View tab and watch the status message at the bottom of the message list (Microsoft Support).
  3. Check whether your mailbox or cloud storage is full. When Microsoft cloud storage fills up, mail stops arriving entirely and incoming messages bounce back to senders (Microsoft Support).
  4. Re-enter your password if you changed it. If you updated the password with your email provider, select the account icon, choose Continue, and sign in again (Microsoft Support).
  5. Reset the account in the Outlook mobile app. Go to Settings, tap the account that isn't syncing, and tap Reset Account (Microsoft Support).
  6. Remove the device partnership. In Outlook on the web go to Settings > General > Mobile devices, delete your device, save, power the phone off and on, then sync again (Microsoft Support).
  7. Delete and re-add the account. As a last resort, remove the email account from Outlook and set it up fresh (Microsoft Support).
Still stuck? For a work or school account, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator; for an Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Live address, contact Microsoft Support (Microsoft Support).
