Spotify Playing Too Many Ads: How to Fix It
Ads interrupt almost every couple of songs, or you're paying for Premium and still hearing or seeing ads you shouldn't be getting.
Try these in order
- Confirm your plan is actually active Open your account page and check Premium is showing as current. A lapsed or failed payment quietly drops you back to the free tier, which is ad-supported.
- Restart and update the app Close Spotify fully, reopen it, and make sure you're on the latest version — Spotify has previously fixed a bug that served ads to paying Premium users.
- Log out and log back in This refreshes your subscription status on the device, which is often what's stale when Premium users hear ads.
- Reinstall Spotify Delete and reinstall the app if logging out doesn't help, then sign in again.
- Adjust your ad preferences In your ad settings you can ask to hear fewer ads from categories like alcohol, dating, gambling, politics, pregnancy and parenting, and weight loss. This changes what you hear, not how many ads you get.
- Like or dislike ads in the app Tapping like or dislike on ads tells Spotify what you'd rather hear.
Still stuck? Ads inside podcasts are normal for both free and Premium listeners — that's the podcaster's own advertising and won't go away. If music is still interrupted on Premium, report it to Spotify with your device model, operating system, and app version.
