Spotify Songs Won't Play: How to Fix It
You press play and nothing happens, tracks are greyed out, or you see a "Page not available" or "Something went wrong" message.
Try these in order
- Restart the Spotify app Close it completely and open it again — Spotify lists this as the first thing to try for playback problems.
- Update the app Install the newest version of Spotify from your app store, and update your device's operating system too.
- Check your internet connection Make sure your connection is stable, and confirm you're not accidentally in Offline Mode, which greys out anything you haven't downloaded.
- Close other apps and clear your cache Free up memory by shutting other apps and clearing Spotify's cache. Spotify recommends at least 250MB of available memory.
- Test on another device or the web player If music plays fine elsewhere, the problem is specific to your device. On desktop, check your firewall isn't blocking Spotify.
- Reinstall the app Delete Spotify and install it fresh. You'll need to re-download any saved music and podcasts afterwards.
Still stuck? Greyed-out tracks may simply not be licensed in your country. Check @SpotifyStatus for known outages, and note that if you spend more than 14 days abroad you'll need to update your account settings before anything will play.
