Spotify Songs Won't Play: How to Fix It

You press play and nothing happens, tracks are greyed out, or you see a "Page not available" or "Something went wrong" message.

Try these in order

  1. Restart the Spotify app Close it completely and open it again — Spotify lists this as the first thing to try for playback problems.
  2. Update the app Install the newest version of Spotify from your app store, and update your device's operating system too.
  3. Check your internet connection Make sure your connection is stable, and confirm you're not accidentally in Offline Mode, which greys out anything you haven't downloaded.
  4. Close other apps and clear your cache Free up memory by shutting other apps and clearing Spotify's cache. Spotify recommends at least 250MB of available memory.
  5. Test on another device or the web player If music plays fine elsewhere, the problem is specific to your device. On desktop, check your firewall isn't blocking Spotify.
  6. Reinstall the app Delete Spotify and install it fresh. You'll need to re-download any saved music and podcasts afterwards.
Still stuck? Greyed-out tracks may simply not be licensed in your country. Check @SpotifyStatus for known outages, and note that if you spend more than 14 days abroad you'll need to update your account settings before anything will play.
