Telegram Notifications Arriving Late: How to Fix It
Telegram messages only show up when you open the app, or alerts land minutes or hours after they were sent.
Try these in order
- Check Telegram's own notification settings Go to Settings > Notifications and Sounds and make sure notifications are on for private chats, groups and channels, with Importance set to High or greater on Android (Telegram FAQ).
- Check whether the chat is muted A muted chat or channel won't alert you no matter what your global settings say; look for the muted speaker icon in your chat list, and review Muted Chats and the Exceptions list (mobileOS).
- Confirm system permissions On Android open Settings > Apps > Telegram > Notifications and enable each category; on iPhone open Settings > Telegram > Notifications and make sure Allow Notifications is on (mobileOS).
- Whitelist Telegram from battery saving If your phone uses battery-saving or task-killer software, add Telegram to the allowed list — on Huawei via Phone Manager > Protected Apps, and on Xiaomi by enabling Autostart under Security > Permissions (Telegram FAQ).
- Turn off Do Not Disturb or Focus modes These silence alerts system-wide and are a common reason notifications feel delayed (mobileOS).
- Check Google Play Services (Android) Telegram's push notifications rely on Google Play Services being installed on the phone (Telegram FAQ).
- Reset the alert style (iPhone) Force quit Telegram, set its alert style to None in phone settings, relaunch Telegram, then set the alert style back to banners (Telegram FAQ).
