YouTube Ads Stuck or Won't Skip: How to Fix It
An ad plays and the Skip button never appears, or it appears but does nothing when you tap it.
Try these in order
- Wait the full five seconds Skippable ads only show the Skip button after five seconds, and some formats are never skippable at all (SkipCut).
- Check what kind of ad it is Bumper ads (up to 6 seconds) and standard non-skippable ads (15, 20 or up to 30 seconds on TV) have no Skip button by design (SkipCut).
- Tap or click Skip again, then reload the page The button sometimes lags; refreshing can restore missing controls (Leawo).
- Test in a private window with extensions off Ad blockers and script blockers are the most common cause of a missing Skip button — re-enable them one at a time to find the culprit (SkipCut).
- Update the app or browser Install the latest YouTube app, browser version, or TV firmware (SkipCut).
- Clear YouTube's cache or site data Do this after the easier steps, as it can sign you out and reset preferences (SkipCut).
- Restart the device On a TV, unplug it for at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in (SkipCut).
