Facebook Can't Change Your Name: How to Fix It

Facebook won't let you change your name — the option is greyed out, your change gets rejected, or it asks you to confirm your name.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check the 60-day rule. You can only change your name once every 60 days. If you changed it recently, you'll have to wait (Facebook Help).
  2. Use the right menu. Click your profile picture → Settings & privacy → Settings → Accounts Center → Profiles → your account → Name. Enter the name, click Review change, then Save changes (Facebook Help).
  3. Remove anything Facebook doesn't allow. Names can't include symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeated characters, titles, or characters from multiple languages (Facebook Help).
  4. Use the name on your ID. Facebook's name policy says your name should match what's on an ID, and it may ask you to confirm it (Facebook Help).
  5. Look in Meta Account settings if Accounts Center isn't there. Facebook is gradually moving people to Meta Accounts, so the setting may appear in either place (Facebook Help).
Still stuck? If you meet every rule and it still won't save, let Facebook know through its Help Center (Facebook Help).
