Facebook Messenger Not Sending Messages: How to Fix It

Your Messenger messages fail, get stuck sending, or you see an error saying you can't send messages right now.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Close Messenger and restart your phone. Facebook lists this as the first fix (Facebook Help).
  2. Update Messenger to the latest version from your app store (Facebook Help).
  3. Check your connection and storage. Make sure you're on reliable Wi-Fi or data and that your phone has free storage space (Facebook Help).
  4. Check the other person's account. Messages won't go through if they deactivated or deleted their account, or if either of you blocked the other. In a group chat, members may have left (Facebook Help).
  5. If you're blocked from sending, wait it out. Sending a lot of messages quickly or content against Community Standards can trigger a temporary block. You can still comment and post with friends meanwhile (Facebook Help).
  6. After a block ends, message only people you know and use the name you go by in everyday life so people recognize you (Facebook Help).
Still stuck? If you're still stuck, use the report-a-problem option to tell Facebook about the issue (Facebook Help).
