PayPal Bank Account Won't Link: How to Fix It

PayPal won't let you add or confirm your bank account.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check the bank is compatible. It needs to be a U.S. bank that works with PayPal — most online-only and prepaid accounts don't (PayPal Help).
  2. Match the names. The name on the bank account must match the name on your PayPal account (PayPal Help).
  3. Check the limits. You can link up to 8 bank accounts, and a single bank account can only be linked to 3 PayPal accounts over its lifetime (PayPal Help).
  4. Clear any account problems. A bank account can't be linked if it's on a PayPal account that's limited or has a negative balance (PayPal Help).
  5. Wrong deposit amounts three times? Contact PayPal to reactivate the bank account (PayPal Help).
  6. Check for declined payments. If your bank declined a payment, PayPal may have removed the account to avoid more declines (PayPal Help).
Still stuck? If everything checks out, try linking through your bank's instant login option instead of entering account numbers by hand.
