PayPal Transfer Delayed: How to Fix It

You moved money out of PayPal to your bank or debit card and it hasn't shown up. The transfer may say "Pending Review," or say "Complete" while your bank balance hasn't budged.

Try these in order

  1. Check the status in Activity. Log in, go to Activity, and click the transaction. "Pending Review" means it's in security checks and will process once cleared; "Completed" means PayPal has sent it and the timing is now down to your bank (PayPal).
  2. Match your expectations to the transfer type. Instant Transfers are typically processed within minutes; Standard Transfers to a linked debit card usually complete within 48 hours; Standard Transfers to a bank account typically take 1 business day but can take 1–3 (PayPal).
  3. Allow for cut-off times. Transfers started after 7:00 PM ET, at a weekend, or on a holiday can take an extra day to land (PayPal).
  4. Give security review time to clear. All withdrawals get an automated review; these typically clear within 24 hours but can take up to 72 hours, and PayPal will notify you if there's a delay (PayPal).
  5. Check that your details match. Unverified or mismatched account details cause delays — your bank details and PayPal account details should match. If the info you entered doesn't match your bank's records, remove the bank account and link it again (PayPal).
  6. Check whether a limitation is blocking you. Messages like "We're not able to complete this transaction at the moment" or "We can't complete this transaction right now" usually mean there's a limitation on your account that must be removed first (PayPal).
  7. If it's an incoming eCheck payment, expect a longer wait. Bank-funded payments processed as eChecks usually take 4–7 business days to clear, and weekends and holidays don't count. Click the transaction in Activity to see the expected clearing date (PayPal).
Still stuck? If an Instant Transfer hasn't arrived after 30 minutes, or a transfer has passed the normal timeframes, contact your bank — and watch your email, because PayPal will tell you within one week if your bank hit a problem, in which case the money returns to your PayPal balance minus any return fees (PayPal).
