PayPal Login Issues: How to Fix It
You can't get into your PayPal account — the password won't work, the security code never arrives, or PayPal says your account is locked.
Try these in order
- Reset your password from the login page. Go to the PayPal login, click Forgot password?, choose how you want to complete the security check and click Next. Once you pass the check, PayPal lets you create a new password or keep your current one (PayPal).
- If you've changed phone numbers, that's likely the cause. With 2-step verification on, the access code still goes to the old number until you update it — so you'll need to recover access to your account, then update the number right away (PayPal).
- Fix a phone number that isn't receiving codes. In Settings, under Phone Numbers, add your current number with + Add New, or use Change to edit the existing one, then confirm it and try again (PayPal).
- Use the code correctly. The 6-digit code is inside the body of the text, not the 725-729 shortcode it comes from, and it expires after 5–10 minutes — click Resend or Try another way if you miss the window (PayPal).
- Ask your carrier to enable short-code texts. If PayPal's texts still don't arrive after re-adding your number, your mobile carrier may be blocking short-code messaging on your line (PayPal).
- Consider turning off 2-step verification once you're back in. PayPal lets you deactivate 2-step verification at any time if it's repeatedly locking you out — just make sure your other security details are current first (PayPal).
- If the account is locked, call PayPal. Have your telephone number, a statement for the credit card or bank account linked to PayPal, and the email address you registered with, so they can confirm you own the account (PayPal).
Still stuck? To find the phone number, go to Contact Us, choose Call Us near the bottom of the page, and click call us as a guest — PayPal specifically asks you to call if you've tried resetting your password and still can't log in (PayPal).
