Uber App Keeps Crashing or Freezing: How to Fix It

The Uber app closes by itself, freezes on a loading screen, or stops responding when you try to book a ride.

Try these in order

  1. Force close the app and reopen it On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe the Uber card away; on Android, open your recent apps and swipe Uber off the screen or tap Force Stop (Uber Help).
  2. Restart your phone Hold the power button, power the phone off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and open Uber again (Uber Help).
  3. Update the Uber app Check the App Store or Play Store for a pending Uber update, then restart the app once it installs (Uber Help).
  4. Update your phone's software Uber recommends checking for pending operating system updates, and on Android the app needs Android 8 or above (Uber Help).
  5. Switch to a stronger connection Move to solid Wi-Fi or a good mobile signal, since a weak connection can make the app hang (Uber Help).
  6. Reset your network settings (iPhone) Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This erases saved Wi-Fi passwords, so do it last (Uber Help).
Still stuck? If the crashes continue after all of that, Uber asks you to log in to their help site and contact support so they can look at your account and device (Uber Help).
