YouTube No Sound: How to Fix It
YouTube videos play but there's no sound.
What exactly is happening?
Try these in order
- Check the volume everywhere. Make sure sound is on in the YouTube player, your browser or app, and your device (YouTube Help).
- Check your device's sound settings. Look at where audio is going — it may be sending sound to Bluetooth headphones or another speaker (YouTube Help).
- Restart your browser or device. YouTube lists this as a key fix (YouTube Help).
- Turn off extensions. Try YouTube in an incognito window with extensions disabled — ad blockers can break playback (YouTube Help).
- Update the app and your device's software, or uninstall and reinstall the YouTube app (YouTube Help).
- On a TV, power cycle it. Unplug the device, wait at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in (YouTube Help).
Still stuck? If only one video is silent, the uploader may have muted it or a copyright claim removed the audio.
