YouTube Premium Still Showing Ads: How to Fix It

You pay for YouTube Premium but you're still seeing ads.

What exactly is happening?

Try these in order

  1. Check you're signed in to the Premium account. Sign out and back in, and look for the YouTube Premium logo (YouTube Help).
  2. Confirm your membership is active. Visit youtube.com/paid_memberships to check it hasn't expired (YouTube Help).
  3. Check you have Premium, not Music Premium. YouTube Music Premium only removes ads from music. You need YouTube Premium for ad-free videos (YouTube Help).
  4. Sign in on every device. On a smart TV, sign in to the right account. When casting, sign in on both the TV and your phone (YouTube Help).
  5. Check Premium works in your country. Premium benefits only work where YouTube Premium is available (YouTube Help).
  6. Know what isn't an ad. Creators' own sponsorships, promotional links, and info cards can still appear — they aren't YouTube ads (YouTube Help).
Still stuck? If real ads keep appearing, contact YouTube support with the ad type, where you saw it, a video link, and roughly when (YouTube Help).
