Zoom App Keeps Crashing: How to Fix It

Zoom freezes, closes itself mid-meeting, or quits as soon as you start sharing your screen.

Try these in order

  1. Restart Zoom and your device. Fully close the app and reopen it, then restart the computer or phone if freezing continues (Zoom Support).
  2. Update to the newest Zoom version. Many crash and freeze bugs are fixed in later releases (Zoom Support).
  3. Clear Zoom's cache and cookies. You'll find this in the app's settings; it clears out corrupted temporary files (Zoom Support).
  4. Check your camera and video settings if it freezes on video. Test your video, confirm the correct camera is selected, and adjust your video settings (Zoom Support).
  5. Update your computer's drivers. Zoom recommends updating all drivers, including graphics and BIOS, when it crashes during screen sharing (Zoom Support).
  6. Reinstall with a clean uninstall. Run CleanZoom to remove every trace of Zoom, then install the 64-bit client from Zoom's Download Center (Zoom Support).
  7. Switch the video rendering method. In Settings > Video > Advanced, choose Direct3D9, restart your computer, and test again (Zoom Support).
Still stuck? Join from the Zoom mobile app or phone dial-in while you wait, and check Zoom's status page for a wider outage before contacting Zoom Support.
