Netflix App Keeps Crashing: How to Fix It

Netflix closes itself the moment you open it, freezes on the loading screen, or kicks you back to your home screen mid-show.

Try these in order

  1. Restart your device Turn your phone, TV, or streaming box completely off — not just locked or in standby — leave it off for 15 seconds, then turn it back on.
  2. Update the Netflix app Open your app store, find Netflix, and tap Update. If there's no Update button, you're already on the latest version.
  3. Update your device's operating system On Android, check the Settings app; on a streaming box or smart TV, look under System, then Software Update.
  4. Close other running apps On an iPhone or iPad, open the app switcher and swipe up on every app to quit it, then open Netflix again.
  5. Clear the app's stored data On devices like Fire TV, go to Settings, Applications, Manage installed applications, select Netflix, then Clear data and Clear cache.
  6. Uninstall and reinstall Netflix Delete the app and download it fresh from your app store, then sign back in. Have your password ready, as this removes saved downloads.
Still stuck? Contact the company that made your device and ask them to help update its firmware and, if needed, restore it to original settings. If that doesn't work, contact Netflix or use a different device.
