Netflix Not Working on Smart TV: How to Fix It
The Netflix app on your smart TV won't open, freezes, shows an error, or won't play anything.
What exactly is happening?
Try these in order
- Power cycle the TV. Turn it off completely and unplug it, wait 15 seconds, then turn it back on (Netflix Help).
- Sign out and back in. From the Netflix home screen, press Back, go to Get Help → Sign out → Yes, then sign in again (Netflix Help).
- Use the hidden reset code if you can't reach the menu: press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up, then choose Sign out, Reset, or Deactivate (Netflix Help).
- Restart your home network. Unplug your modem and router for 30 seconds, plug them back in, and wait until the lights stop blinking (Netflix Help).
- Check public Wi-Fi. Hotels, schools, and cafes sometimes block Netflix (Netflix Help).
- Update the TV's software. On Roku, go to Home → Settings → System → Software update → Check now. Other brands have similar options in settings (Netflix Help).
Still stuck? If other apps on the TV also can't connect, it's the TV's internet connection — check the TV manual or contact the manufacturer (Netflix Help).
