Netflix Subtitles Not Working: How to Fix It
Netflix subtitles won't turn on, won't turn off, are out of sync, or show the wrong language.
What exactly is happening?
Try these in order
- Check the title's language rules. Some shows made in another region don't let you turn subtitles off, and may show them in that region's main language by default (Netflix Help).
- Fix subtitles that keep coming back on Kids titles. Play a title rated Teens or above with your preferred subtitle setting — Netflix saves it for later (Netflix Help).
- Check your TV or console's captions. On Xbox One, go to Settings → Ease of access → Closed Captioning and turn it off. Device-level captions override Netflix (Netflix Help).
- Report out-of-sync or wrong subtitles. While watching on a phone, tablet, or browser, select the flag at the top, choose Subtitles & Captions, and send (Netflix Help).
- Or report from your Account page. Go to Account → Profiles → your profile → Viewing activity, find the title, and select Report a problem (Netflix Help).
- Sign out and back in on your TV to clear stuck settings (Netflix Help).
Still stuck? Reports go to Netflix's content teams, but a fix may not happen right away (Netflix Help).
