Venmo Transfer Delayed or Stuck Pending: How to Fix It

You cashed out to your bank or sent someone money, and days later it's still showing as pending with nothing arriving.

Try these in order

  1. Check the expected timeline first Instant transfers can take around 30 minutes, standard transfers up to 3 business days, and bank-funded payments to friends typically clear in 3 to 5 business days.
  2. Confirm the transfer actually started Look for the green check mark and check the transfer status in the app, including the last 4 digits of the bank or card you sent it to.
  3. Look at the estimated completion date Your Transactions feed shows an estimated date for pending payments — that's the most reliable answer on timing.
  4. Check your bank statement carefully Standard transfers arrive as ACH deposits labelled "VENMO-0 CASHOUT" and can be back-dated up to 2 days. Instant transfers appear as an original credit transaction, not a direct deposit.
  5. Check whether the recipient has claimed it If you paid a phone number or email that isn't verified or isn't linked to a Venmo account, the money waits until they finish signing up. You can tap Take Back from the Me tab to cancel it.
  6. Cancel or speed up a standard transfer within the first hour While it's still pending, open the transfer details and choose "Get it faster" or "Cancel it."
Still stuck? A pending transfer may just need extra time in Venmo's internal review, and there's no way to speed one up. Unclaimed payments expire after 30 days and return to your payment method. For anything longer, use the Contact Us page to Connect with Support.
